Akaku launches “Producer’s Night”

Community producers will have a place to come together to exchange tips, ideas, stories and suggestions at alternating media salon events in the Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) digital lounge on the first Friday of every month at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. The event is free, and includes light pupus and beverages, but interested individuals are urged to register in advance by calling 871-5554.

Akaku is launching “Producers Night” on Friday, April 4 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., a monthly series that provides a space for community producers to come together, share their videos or video segments, exchange thoughts, meet Akaku staff and/or its appointed board member representatives, and express their vision for Akaku’s producer network.

“Community producers are the most critical element of any effective public access organization. Without their engagement in the community or their submission of video content Akaku’s channels would be bare,” says Jay April, President/ CEO of Akaku.

‘Producers Night’ offers community producers and participants a monthly opportunity to connect with one another, meet potential collaborators, and to address their wishes for the future of Akaku in an open forum with their peers and counterparts.
“This event is an extension of our Media Salons, where community producers can truly define their own networking agenda. We’re fortunate to have the facility to host our producers in this community event,” continues April.
Media professionals on the Akaku Staff, including Jay April, Maui Daily Executive Producer Dave Coennen, Education Director Sara Tekula, and Technical Director and Professional Video Journalist Dave Garrison will be present to facilitate the event and to offer support to the Akaku producer community.
