Akaku’s Media Lab hours will change beginning on March 2

Due to popular demand the media lab of Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului will change and extend its hours beginning March 2, 2009 to the following schedule:

Monday: 12 noon- 9pm
Tuesday: 12 noon- 9pm
Wednesday: 9am- 9pm
Thursday: 12 noon- 9pm
Friday: 10am- 4pm

Documentarian Tekula to Share Stories and Tricks of the Trade

Akaku: Maui Community Television Media Salon Guest Speaker Series features Documentary Filmmaker & Akaku Staffer, Sara Tekula, on Friday, Feb. 27th at 6 pm

Kahului, February 23, 2009 – Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) will host Sara Tekula, Akaku’s Education Director and former VH1 producer, on Friday, Feb. 27, 6-8 p.m. at its digital lounge at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. Independent community producers and Maui residents will be able to ask questions and “talk story” with Tekula after a brief presentation on the theme: “The Secrets to Making Great Documentaries”. Interested individuals should confirm their interest, as space will be limited. There is a suggested $5 donation upon entry. (more…)

Akaku: Maui Community Television and The Free Speech Hawaii Coalition have partnered up with the Honolulu Community Media Council to present, Time to Act! The 2009 Hawaii Media Justice Conference” on Saturday, March 14, 2009, 8:30 am – 4:430 pm at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Campus Center Ballroom.

The day-long affair kicks off with keynote speaker, Robert Scheer, nationally syndicated columnist, internationally-acclaimed journalist, current editor of TruthDig (truthdig.com), who has interviewed every American president from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton for The Los Angeles Times newspaper. Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) empowers the community's voice through access to media. Akaku is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that airs content created by the community for the community. Community members on Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i are encouraged to submit programming to the station, create their own television shows and have their voices heard by fellow community members.
