Akaku: Maui Community Television Media Salon Guest Speaker Series features Award-Winning Documentarian Daniel Opitz on Friday, May 1 at 6 pmDaniel Opitz

Akaku Maui Community Television  will host award-winning documentarian and German filmmaker Daniel Opitz on Friday, May 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. at its Media Lab at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. Community members and producers will be able to ask questions and “talk story” with Opitz after the screening of his documentary film “The Humpback Code.” The event is open to the public, includes light pupus and a suggested donation of $5 is welcomed. Interested individuals are urged to confirm their attendance, as space will be limited.

“I’m excited to share my film and experience with the local Maui community, which goes beyond the normal whale watch, and gives you a closer and in-depth look at the research surrounding the social lives and song of the Humpback Whales,” said Opitz, who was the director that worked closely with the Whale Trust research team. Akaku: Maui Community Television will host Tania Chattopadhyay, former staff educator and independent filmmaker, on Thursday, April 9 from 6-8:30 p.m. at its Media Lab at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. Independent community producers and community members will be able to ask questions and “talk-story” with Chattopadhyay after the screening of her documentary film “Kenduli Mela”.  The event is open to the public and a suggested donation of $5 is welcomed. Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) empowers the community's voice through access to media. Akaku is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that airs content created by the community for the community. Community members on Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i are encouraged to submit programming to the station, create their own television shows and have their voices heard by fellow community members.
