Both camps will convene in the Akaku Media Lab at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului, and each weeklong camp at full price costs $150. Scholarships are available to motivated applicants who are passionate about video production and provide documentation of financial need.
“This year our summer camps will include field shoots with each group to outdoor locations in the central Maui area,” says Sara Tekula, Akaku Education Director. “I am excited to share what I know about these subjects, and to learn what Maui youth have up their creative sleeves.”
Upon completion of the camp, students will be eligible to become “youth-certified” to borrow cameras and use editing equipment free-of-charge in order to create and contribute content for community viewing on Akaku TV channels 52, 53, and 54. Akaku Youth Video Camps in the past have included: PSA (Public Service Announcement) Production, Music Video Production, Short film Production, and Young Reporters Media Camp.
