Akaku’s Board Seeking Nominations for Public (“Community”) Board of Directors Seat

Akaku Board of Directors to select one nominee to fill Public Seat on Akaku Board

The Board of Directors at Akaku: Maui Community Television is accepting nominations for one or more public-at-large or (“Community”) directors to serve on its Board of Directors. Nominees selected by the Board’s Nomination Committee will have the opportunity to serve on the Akaku Board up to the annual meeting in October, with the possibility of serving an additional term from that date forward at the Board’s discretion. All nominations must be received no later than Friday, July 3, 2009 at 5pm at the Akaku offices in Kahului or Molokai.

Akaku’s Board is composed of representatives from four stakeholder groups: Public, Education, Government and Producers. Recently, the Akaku Board also announced its call to Akaku-certified producers for nominations to fill its two Producers’ seats. (Click here to read the press release.)

In contrast to Producer nominees, Public nominees do not need to fulfill Akaku’s video production certification requirements. The non-profit media outlet, whose mission is to “empower the community’s voice through access to media,” is looking for Maui County residents committed to serving the diverse people and organizations of Maui Nui through their active participation on the advancement of this community service organization.

Akaku’s Board Nomination Committee looks forward to considering candidates with experience in television production, telecommunications policy, nonprofit financial management, fundraising and development, legal affairs, parliamentary procedure, media journalism, community organization and/or Internet and broadband development.

Candidates are encouraged to send a resume and brief statement of qualifications to:
