Akaku: Maui Community Television will host former CNN correspondent Joana Johnston on Friday, Aug. 28 from 6-8pm in the media lab at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. Independent community members and producers will be able to ask questions and talk-story with Johnston after viewing a reel of her career highlights from major media networks. The event is free and a suggested donation of $5 is welcomed to cover food and beverage costs. Interested individuals should R.S.V.P. by calling 871-5554, as space will be limited. (more…)

Akaku Staff Celebrates & Covers 50 years of Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance at Hana Bay Beach Park

Akaku: Maui Community Television will be participating in the Hana community event,”50 Years of Hawaiian Cultural Renaissance” this Friday Aug. 21, 2009 at the Hana Bay Beach Park from 11am-5pm. The event is free and will include activities in the Helene Hall, food and live entertainment from Eddie Kamae. Akaku staff will be videotaping the main stage events and will set up an informational booth for attendees to talk-story, share information and record quick shout-outs. (more…)

Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) empowers the community's voice through access to media. Akaku is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that airs content created by the community for the community. Community members on Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i are encouraged to submit programming to the station, create their own television shows and have their voices heard by fellow community members.
