Akaku: Maui Community Television joins a worldwide Community TV initiativeThe Travler

Akaku has been accepted to take part in the Link International Community TV project, where 12 community TV stations around the world will contribute short, localized segments of a traveler in their own community to develop a 90-minute feature length film called “The Traveller.” The film idea, originally conceived in Australia by Channel 31 Adelaide will be aired live on community TV stations worldwide to create 24-hour rolling broadcast around the world. Akaku’s Media Salon Guest Speakers Series features Local Radio Broadcasters Chivo Ching-Johnson and Q103’s Shaggy Jenkins on Friday, Sept. 25 from 6-8pm Chivo & Shaggy, Fri. Sept. 25

Akaku will host veteran radio broadcaster Chivo Ching-Johnson and Q103 radio personality Shaggy Jenkins, on Friday, Sept. 25 from 6-8pm at its media lab at 333 Dairy Road, Kahului. Independent community producers and members will be able to “talk-story” with Ching-Johnson and Jenkins after a brief presentation on the theme “Radio in the Digital Age.” The event is free, but interested individuals are encouraged to confirm their attendance, as space will be limited in the media lab. Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) empowers the community's voice through access to media. Akaku is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that airs content created by the community for the community. Community members on Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i are encouraged to submit programming to the station, create their own television shows and have their voices heard by fellow community members.
