Introduction to Final Cut Pro

Introduction to Final Cut Pro: This class will cover basic editing skills and Final Cut Pro systems available at Akaku. With a maximum of 8 students to every instructor and one student per editing system, students will receive intimate hands-on training. Focus will be on learning the interface, basic tools, file management and editing tips. Students are encouraged to come to the Akaku Media Lab to practice their skills soon after completing the class to supplement their training. One edited student project must be submitted before a student becomes Akaku Certified. Basic computer literacy skills are a prerequisite. Upon completion of the class, students will be certified to use Akaku’s Final Cut Pro edit suites free of charge.* Prerequisite: Akaku Orientation, basic computer literacy skills. Maximum number of students per class is eight, and the class is 10.5 hours long, usually held over 3 consecutive days. $150

Final Cut Pro II: (CLASSES POSTPONED for this advanced course. PLEASE EMAIL OUR EDUCATION DIRECTOR TO PUT YOUR NAME ON A WAITING LIST) Building on the skills learned in Introduction to Final Cut Pro, this class provides students with an in-depth look at certain aspects of the editing software, focusing on key framing, sound editing, video effects, and color correction. Students will be required to complete an edited segment for The Maui Daily Show, Akaku: Maui Community Television’s daily news and current events show. Students can either provide their own source footage, or use footage provided by The Maui Daily producers. Prerequisite: Akaku Orientation, Intro To Final Cut Pro. Maximum number of students per class is eight, and the class is 12 hours long, usually held over 3 consecutive days. $200

*For non-commercial productions only. Only non-commercial, community access projects qualify for the free use of Akaku equipment and the use of studio, after certification is complete. If producers want to produce commercial content, they will not be able to use the community equipment for commercial projects.
Akaku: Maui Community Television (Akaku) empowers the community's voice through access to media. Akaku is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that airs content created by the community for the community. Community members on Maui, Moloka'i, and Lana'i are encouraged to submit programming to the station, create their own television shows and have their voices heard by fellow community members.
