About Akakū

Empowering our community’s voice

Akakū Maui Community Media is Maui’s only provider of daily local television news, and the place where anyone in Maui Nui can learn to tell their own story.

Akakū means a reflection, as in a mirror. Since 1992, we’ve been reflecting Maui back to itself.

Our mission

Local media works best when it stays local

Every day, we deliver The Maui Daily: essential lifeline information when it matters most. We cover local government, track Lahaina’s ongoing rebuild, and work to ensure transparency for our community.

We serve, connect and uplift Maui Nui, and we give every resident the tools to be heard.
