Environment, Mind and Mood – How Our Surroundings Influence Our Inner World – Dr. Adam Coles
August 31, 2018
Dr. Adam Coles will lead a lively discussion on how in todayʻs world we process thousands of reference points from our environment, shining a light on how that might affect our mind and mood. His talk will begin with the biology of how the environment is perceived, followed by how all of this information is processed.
He’ll share the implications of how this interaction between ourselves and our surroundings can influence our daily mood and mental state. He will also forecast where we are headed in the context of rising urban populations with a growing pollution burden and climate change.
Dr. Adam Coles is a Psychiatrist and Clinical Director at the Maui Family Guidance Center. His center aims to improve the emotional well-being of children and adolescents and preserve and strengthen families by assuring early access to child and adolescent-centered care and guidance.
Presentation: Dr. Coles wants folks to leave with a broadened sense of appreciation for how our environment shapes our mental state as well as our physical health. In addition, he hopes to spark discussion of some of the challenges that will face us in the future. He will show us how we can act locally in our own micro-environments to better prepare for our future.
