Free Community Television Class Offered at Akakū

Akakū Maui Community Media invites all Maui County residents to learn about public access television at a free Introduction to Akakū and Public Access Media class on Monday, October 21 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Akakū Maui Community Media, 333 Dairy Rd., Suite 204, in Kahului. The class will be repeated on Monday, November 4 and again November 18. Public access television is local, community-supported, free speech TV.

This free orientation to Akakū’s facilities, services, policies, and procedures provides the
backbone for all video production classes at Akakū. You’ll learn how public access TV came to be, what services Akakū has to offer, and the role it plays in our community.
You will also receive a class handbook detailing Akakū’s policies and a tour of the Akakū Studios. This class is a prerequisite for all other TV production classes at Akakū, but may be taken concurrently.

Akakū Maui Community Media is a nonprofit free-speech cable television station dedicated to empowering our community’s voice through access to media. Any resident of Maui County can submit their own TV shows to be aired on Akakū’s three channels, 53/54/55. For more information, log on to www.akaku.org/classes or call (808) 871-5554.
