“PAX AMERICANA” is a short film depicting the end of Desert Storm in 1991. At that time, the US government staged Desert Storm Victory parades in dozens of US cities. Gen. William Westmoreland proclaimed a great ‘PAX AMERICANA’ that would last a thousand years! We knew better.
This prophetic little documentary was hailed “provocative” by the LA Times and was the July 4th Video “Pick of the Week” by the LA Weekly.
It ended up being broadcast by 50 PBS stations nationwide. It was banned by most for its unblinking look at how war hype and propaganda pull on the masses.
Presentation: Jay April, CEO of Akakū Maui Community Media, will be on hand to present the film and lead a spirited discussion with the Akakū audience about how government policy and mainstream media has shaped our perspective about war and peace for the last quarter of a century. You won’t want to miss this!
