Choose a "Speak Out" opportunity or a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to get your point across.
The Akakū studio is available free of charge, once a month, for any Maui County resident or organization to record a public service announcement (PSA), or make a short video (up to 5 minutes) on any subject. Speak Out opportunity reservations may be made at the front desk, by phone or online at least 48 hours in advance.
The finished PSA or Speak Out segment may be up to 5 minutes long. Akakū provides one staff member to tape the session, with no editing. The teleprompter is available for scripts in electronic form. Set dressing is limited, and the Speak Out format generally works best for simple presentations.
Participants will be provided up to 30 minutes to prepare and record their message.

Speak Outs
- Free to all Maui County residents or organizations
- Single camera shoot only
- One Akakū Tech will be assigned to the project
- Mondays and Wednesdays, 1pm-3pm
- 30-minute studio appointments
- Up to 5-minutes in duration
- No calls to action or solicitation of funds allowed
- Minimal editing (open/close slates & generic lower third)
- Limit of one image allowed to be added (must be electronic version)
- Use of teleprompter requires script document in electronic form
- Green screen background is standard, but other options include blue screen, blue curtain, or black curtain
Public Service Announcement (PSA)
- Free to all Maui non-profit organizations
- Mondays and Wednesdays, 1pm-3pm
- 30-minute studio appointments
- Up to 60 seconds in duration
- Minimal editing (PSA open/close slates; lower third may include event details and contact info)
- No calls to action or solicitation of funds allowed
- Minimal editing (open/close slates & generic lower third)
- Limit of one image allowed to be added (must be electronic version)
- Use of teleprompter requires script document in electronic form
- Green screen background is standard, but other options include blue screen, blue curtain, or black curtain.
Recording The Session
- Akakū Tech is responsible for verifying that content adheres to the Speak Out/PSA guidelines
- Any content that does not follow Speak Out /PSA guidelines cannot be recorded or aired without correcting the violations
IN STUDIO “LIVE” OR PRE-RECORDED TV PROGRAMS, EVENT COVERAGE AND MOBILE FIELD CORRESPONDENTS
These programs are available by special arrangement and may require a membership, fee, project proposal, approval process, and special studio and/or in field training
VOLUNTEER and INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Akakū has a volunteer program which allows residents to apply volunteer work hours toward credit for payment for classes and services. It also has a limited number of Internships in Production and in radio for students who need course credit and is attending schools and universities.
