ANNUAL “WALK OF HEROES” CELEBRATION
In 2011 Akakū began the proud tradition of enshrining the "hand and footprints" of some of Maui Nui's undisputed heroes in cement outside the station. We do this to honor their support of Akakū’s mission to “Empower our Community’s Voice through access to Media” or to celebrate the many contributions they have made to forever keep Maui “No Ka Oi.”
Most years have been hosted by a friend of the station and beloved comedian, Andy Bumatai, some of our past honorees include Uncle George Kahumoku, Jr., HAPA’s Barry Flanagan, Diva Amy Hanali’i, the late Uncle Richard Ho’opi’i, Kumu Hokulani Holt, State Senator Roz Baker, and Hawaii Governor, Neil Abercrombie.
One of Maui Nui’s best block parties, the day-long family-friendly event attracts a crowd of hundreds and features fantastic entertainment, music, comedy, a VIP area, and ono grinds.
Akakū offers a variety of ways individuals, non-profit organizations and businesses can support Akakū Maui Community Media and KAKU Radio. You can do well and support a public good at the same time by underwriting individual programs, series, radio shows, TV channels, media salons or special events.
Underwriting offers cost-effective methods to get your name, logo and custom message in front of more than 132,000 potential cable viewers and 40,000 radio listeners daily across three media platforms, TV, Radio and Online.
