ANNUAL “WALK OF HEROES” CELEBRATION

In 2011 Akakū began the proud tradition of enshrining the "hand and footprints" of some of Maui Nui's undisputed heroes in cement outside the station. We do this to honor their support of Akakū’s mission to “Empower our Community’s Voice through access to Media” or to celebrate the many contributions they have made to forever keep Maui “No Ka Oi.”

Most years have been hosted by a friend of the station and beloved comedian, Andy Bumatai, some of our past honorees include Uncle George Kahumoku, Jr., HAPA’s Barry Flanagan, Diva Amy Hanali’i, the late Uncle Richard Ho’opi’i, Kumu Hokulani Holt, State Senator Roz Baker, and Hawaii Governor, Neil Abercrombie.

One of Maui Nui’s best block parties, the day-long family-friendly event attracts a crowd of hundreds and features fantastic entertainment, music, comedy, a VIP area, and ono grinds.
