Akakū Upstairs Presents: Maui Huliau Foundation: How Film Can Be A Tool For Social Change
September 13, 2018
The Maui Huliau Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to promote environmental literacy and leadership among Maui’s youth. Their largest program is the Huliau Environmental Filmmaking Club.
Over the past 8 years, hundreds of students from 16 schools on Maui have created more than 60 short environmental films from documentaries to music videos. Through their unique hands-on programs, they seek to educate and empower Maui’s 12-18 year-olds to become future stewards of Mauiʻs natural environment. Their goal is to introduce the public to Maui Huliau’s programs and their work to promote environmental literacy and leadership among Maui’s youth.
