Akakū Upstairs Presents: Fire and Ice Diver, Photographer – Harry Donenfeld
December 29, 2017
Our first salon of the year will be hair raising and fun! Harry Donenfeld will be sharing his underwater excursions with captivating video and beautiful still photos. Harry was the first diver known to dive an active lava flow (Big Island, Hawaii) in 2008, and alongside icebergs in Antarctica in 2009. Ominous crackling sounds heard throughout the Hawaiian dive were explosions resulting from the hot lava coming into contact with the much cooler water.
Visibility and ambient light at 30 m (100 ft.) were almost reduced to nil by ash and pumice.
Presentation: Harry will take us on two underwater dives including an active lava flow on the Big Island of Hawaii and alongside icebergs in Antarctica. He will discuss the needs of capturing incredible photos by using skill, knowledge, and the willingness to place yourself in the right place at the right time. There are infinite opportunities to capture creativity here on Maui. He’ll share stories of inspiration and discuss the possibilities that are endless. Please join us…RSVP below
